Paul Thomas, Senior OfficerOrient Summer Hours Memorial Day Weekend (May 25, 2008) thru Labor Day
7:00 AM to 11:00 PM EDT seven days a week
No passage IN during closed hours. Gates block passage during the hours that this US Port is "closed" and abandoned.
Customs Canada in Fosterville observes concurrent hours. The Port of Forest City, ME (448-2288) is open 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM Daily - Memorial Day thru Labor Day although the Fosterville, NB Customs Office is open 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM ET daily including Saturday and Sunday.
PortPASS/CanPASS Credentials to enter either country at unattended ports during "closed" hours are no longer honored by the United States but are still being honored by Canada. The privileges granted by this program are moot, however, when the US Border Ports are unoccupied and the gates are closed as passage in either direction is prohibited, except for emergencies. Travelers leaving Forest City, Maine may enter Canada after 4:00 PM and before 7:00 PM ET daily if they possess and use their CanPass Credentials.
Remote Port Entry Program (RPEP) credential holders may enter and leave the US when border ports at Orient and Forest City, ME are closed and abandoned.
If the gates don't work properly, authorized credential holders should press the silver button on the RPEP kiosk to state their need to the CBP Officer who answers...speak directly and loudly into the microphone.
****Orient Winter Hours Labor Day thru Memorial Day.
7:00 AM to 5:00 PM EDT seven days a week
No passage into the U.S. during closed hours. Gates block passage into the U.S. during the hours that this US Port is "closed" and abandoned. Passage INTO CANADA is permitted daily until the time the Fosterville Port closes and both ports are abandoned and all passage is blocked by gates and barricades. After November, Fosterville closes at 4:00 PM EDT (5:00 PM Atlantic Time). When both US and Canada Ports are closed, Remote Port Entry Program (RPEP) credential holders may enter the USA and although they may leave the USA, they must have valid authorization to enter Canada when that port is abandoned. If the gates don't work properly, authorized credential holders should press the silver button on the RPEP kiosk to state their need to the CBP Officer who answers...speak directly and loudly into the microphone.
****The Fosterville, NB Customs Office (506-894-2281)
is open 7:00 AM until 11:00 PM ET daily (8:00 AM to Midnight Atlantic Time) between Victoria Day (mid May) thru an undisclosed day in November...
between November and mid-May, they close at 5:00 AT (4:00 ET).PortPASS/CanPASS Credentials to enter either country at unattended ports during "closed" hours are no longer honored by the United States but are still being honored by Canada. The privileges granted by this program are useful when the US Border Gates are still open and Canada Customs have closed, e.g. 4:00 ET through 5:00 ET during the winter. When the US gates are closed, passage in either direction is prohibited (to all but RPEP credential holders) except for emergencies.
****During the winter months, the Port of Forest City, ME (207-448-2288) is open 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM Monday thru Saturday
This port is closed Sunday and Holidays from Labor Day thru Memorial Day.The Forest City, NB Customs Office opens at 9:00 AM and closes at 5:00 PM Atlantic Time (8:00 - 4:00 Eastern Time) seven days a week.
****The Ports of Houlton (207-532-2131)/Woodstock and Vanceboro/St. Croix are open 24 hours a day, year around.
If you find the need to make an EMERGENCY CROSSING of the border from Canada into the United States at the Orient/Fosterville Port or at the FCNB/FCME port when either port is closed and abandoned, it would be prudent to phone the Houlton Port at 207-532-2131 before crossing or as soon thereafter as possible.
When all four US and Canada Remote Ports are closed, Remote Port Entry Program (RPEP) credential holders may enter the USA and although they may leave the USA, they must have valid authorization to enter Canada when that port is abandoned. CanPASS credentials are currently honored by Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) provided that the user's CanPass Card has been entered to the electronics at the port to be entered.
