What is the ChipLakeNEWS? It's...

...an electronic newsletter, that is transmitted free with one restriction (and often weekly) to anyone who:

1) requests to be placed on the ChipLakeNEWS e-address list... AND who:

2) Discloses his real identity and snail-mailing address to the editor. I require knowing who is receiving these newsletters. [No one else (except if they have a court order) shares that data.]...AND to:

3) NEW subscribers who financially support some/any Maine or New Brunswick water-based organization:

August 1, 2010

RE: NEW Subscriptions to the ChipLakeNEWS

When the ChipLakeNEWS (clN) was initiated (about 2004) it was originally intended as a monthly medium for communications between and among members of the Chiputneticook Lakes International Conservancy (CLIC), the lake association serving the Chiputneticook chain of boundary water lakes between Maine and New Brunswick. The electronic newsletter, however, quickly evolved into a (mostly) weekly newsletter that has lasted these many years.

Because CLIC members paid annual dues, no charge has ever been made to recipients of the newsletter but soon non-members started to ask to be added to the addressbook...and they were, freely added, because there was virtually no cost to sending the newsletter in the hope was that those non-members would JOIN CLIC.

That policy of adding non-member's e-addresses to the newsletter's address book without cost has continued until NOW...and even after some rather stiff prodding, few of those freebee hangers-on have ever joined CLIC nor have they given any indication that they financially support ANY Maine or New Brunswick water organization, that policy has changed as of August 1, 2010.

Most clN recipients are CLIC members, several others belong to other known Maine or New Brunswick water organizations, including but not limited to the Woodie Wheaton Land Trust (WWLT), the Skiff Lake Campowners or the Grand Lake Stream Lakes Association or the St. Croix International Waterway Commission (SCIWC) or the Downeast Lakes Land Trust (DLLT) (and others)...so because your editor and writer and sender is lazy, they have remained on the clN address list. BUT...

...as benevolent dictator and sole policy setter for the clN I have decided that all NEW subscribers will be required to either JOIN CLIC or JOIN the Woodie Wheaton Land Trust of Forest City (WWLT) or the St. Croix International Waterway Commission or that you financially support some/any other Maine or New Brunswick water-based organization...and upon my request, you must give some kind of proof that you continue membership in one of those organizations so long as you choose to continue to receive the clN without any subscription fee payable to the clN.

The recipient's membership in CLIC or WWLT is easy for me to verify, because I am the Membership Chairman and Treasurer for both CLIC and WWLT, both are 501 c 3 tax exempt organizations...and I don't need to receive proof of the recipient's continued support...I KNOW whether they continue to give support or not.

Not having my ear to the heartbeat of other water organizations, membership in ANY other ME or NB organization will require some kind of occasional verification...it won't be involved but some form of proof will be required...as I said, I'm lazy.

CLIC dues are merely $10.00 per year per person and the WWLT sets no minimum contribution to establish membership...so the money ain't the factor...the important factor is the recipient's willingness to support a local water-based organization.

The BOTTOM LINE here is that I will send the clN to NEW subscribers for a short while...long enough for them to either JOIN CLIC or JOIN WWLT or show that they financially support any another local water-based organization.

To JOIN CLIC, please go to it's HOME web page and do what it says there to JOIN CLIC. The URL for CLIC's Home Page is: http://www.chiplakenews.org/CLIChome.htm

OR please go to the WWLT's HOME web page, follow the link to making a contribution and JOIN the WWLT. The URL for WWLT's Home Page is: http://www.woodiewheaton.org/index.html

You're on your own to find and join another Maine or New Brunswick Water Organization if you don't choose either CLIC or the WWLT.

Once you request a free subscription, you will receive the next several clNs that I transmit...to give you time to JOIN the organization that you choose and let me know which one.

The e-newsletter often contains information about the five boundary-water Chiputneticook Lakes between Maine and New Brunswick, the greater St. Croix River Basin, fish and fishing in Maine and New Brunswick lakes and rivers, activities of CLIC (Chiputneticook Lakes International Conservancy, Inc. the Chiputneticook area lake association), WWLT, the Woodie Wheaton Land Trust and its efforts to protect the shores of Spednic, North, Bracket, Deering and East Grand Lakes and information about lots of "lake people" along with other activities going on around the area's lakes and waterways.

For more information about the newsletter, check out the ChipLakeNEWS's "Folkways" page.... in the table of page links, above. (Look that up in your Funk & Wagnals :-)

If you don't already receive the ChipLakeNEWS and want to receive this e-newsletter,
e-mail these four items:

1) Your full name (required)

2) Your postal mailing address (required)

3) Your e-mail address (required)

4) The name of the Maine or New Brunswick water-based organization that you financially support.

to: ChipLakeINFO <AT> aol.com

Even though it's not required, we'd also like to know your "connection" with the Chiputneticook Lakes...do you own property in the area? Why do you want to receive the ChipLakeNEWS?

Enter "Subscription Request" on the subject line
of that e-mail
(so I don't mistake it for e-trash or SPAM).

...or snail-mail it to ChipLakeNEWS c/o Bill Walton, 28 Snowberry Lane, Orient, ME 04471-4320 (there, you now have my real name and address).

...anyone may request to receive the e-newsletter.

AND
The ChipLakeNEWS is ALSO this website.
